Administrative Check-Offs:
Schedules/Lateness: We selected you for this show, because
not only you are talented, but also your schedules were flexible and lined up
well with our schedule. In some cases,
we specifically scheduled rehearsal around your schedule based on your audition
form conflicts. As a courtesy to your
cast and production team, it is critical that you do not miss ANY rehearsal
that is not already scheduled as a conflict.
We are relying on the whole team to be in attendance, because rehearsals
really do go poorly when we are caught by surprise with an unexcused absence
and that puts everyone behind the schedule.
Additionally, it is your responsibility to pick up the blocking,
staging, music, dance, notes, etc. upon your return. You will be expected to pick it up exactly
where we left off—no excuses. You should
get with Stage Management when you do miss or are late.
Extenuating Circumstance: Discuss with SM first before late or absence.
Reminder of Conflicts: If you listed a conflict on your audition form, please remind us when
you are not going to be at rehearsal—this is a helpful reminder for us.
Reporting: It is very
important that you do not report any scheduling conflicts, lateness, absence or
personal situations to anyone but the stage manager, unless she is not
available, then reach Roy.
Rehearsals: We expect everyone to arrive 10-15
minutes prior to rehearsals in the designated rehearsal room, ready to start
warm-ups etc by the rehearsal start time. Lateness to rehearsal is also
taboo! We understand traffic,
emergencies, etc., but these have to be minimized. You’re committed to this and we in return are
committed to you and will do the same. If you are going to be late, call Elizabeth
Wisdom.
Communication/Schedule:
• Schedule will be posted by Thursday. We
will advise you of any location/time changes, but it is pretty much set.
• We also post everything on the blog. You are expected to review this blog
daily. You should have received an email
link to the blog, you will need to access this daily, so please bookmark it on
your phone, computer, iPad or wherever you’ll ensure regular reading of
it. You will have to enter a Google login the first time, to ensure we
our blog is private. If you don't have one, simply create a Google account.
• Please add your email to
the blog for automatic notice of blog entries, anything sent by email to the Cast will be also
posted as an FYI, but pay special attention to emails that likely continue very
specific alerts or directing you to check out the blog.
Expectations – How we
work….
• Arrive: on time—prior to the start time.
• Wear: comfortable and appropriate attire, including jazz
shoes/performance shoes whenever possible.
No tanks for boys, not minis for girls, enough said.
• Respect the facility: clean up after use, help put rooms
back together, etc
• Let the Direction team Direct – We really respect your talents and opinions, but
we ask that you keep your own direction saddled, as much as possible, and
unless absolutely critical and asked.
Listen to your Directors closely.
There will be moments where your input will be solicited throughout this
process.
• Rehearsal Conduct: We have to have absolute
quiet while the Directors are working with the cast. We also have to have everyone still and not
running their blocking or choreography during a group session in the same room,
unless you are requested. It will distract
from the Director’s ability to communicate and concentrate. If you are on the sidelines, not involved in
a scene, pay close attention for ques/blocking, and always bring a book or any
device to stay occupied while not needed.
However, pay close attention to the work in case we have to call you. Delays are costly.
• Communicate: Read the blog and our
emails. We are not mind readers—some of
us are! We cannot chase you around to be
sure you are okay and are getting it—it will show in your rehearsals. Therefore, you need to proactively tell us
what is happening in your world and any problems you have while learning the
blocking, choreography, music, etc.
Proactively talk to us—don’t let things pile up so that you do not
perform/rehearse, well as it affects everyone.
• Social Media: We encourage the
use of social media to promote our show and your performances. Please be respectful of what you post and
write about the show. Do not post
pictures of costumes, set, rehearsals, etc. without the Producer’s specific
permission. You can post about the
journey and even take pictures of each other at rehearsal. We just want to control what people see
outside rehearsal before we are ready to release. We will from time to time deliver marketing
materials to you for posting—please update for ticket sales, promotion,
etc.
• Respect Each Other:
This is the most important thing we want you take away from
tonight. You represent the Theatre and
our show now and this is one of our few demands we make. We will all make mistakes, have an off
night, not know our lines, not make the right call in a rehearsal, have a
breakdown in communication, etc. No one
is perfect. We now have to work together
as a team to reach our goal—a Great Opening Night in 45 days. This is only way we can do this. We are not asking you to make best friends
with your fellow cast, but respect each other’s talents, thoughts, belief
system, lifestyle, opinion and performance.
Maybe, just maybe, you will find a great friend or become closer to
people you thought you knew. This is a
team effort; let’s pick each other up always.
IMPORTANT: Do not say, post, or write anything to
criticize a performer, production team or any volunteer in this show or any
process—this includes social media, blogs, Facebook and verbal. You are also expected to uphold a positive, well-mannered etiquette at
all times. Inappropriate comments,
suggestions, language, as well as personal attacks, criticisms, or veiled
threats, etc directed at anyone in this cast or Theatre or concerning any
process, will not be tolerated and the Production Team reserves the right to
remove you from the Cast and Production team immediately for any of these
violations.
